Morning drive to Tarangire National Park (2 hours). Lunch on the deck as elephants come to drink at the river. Afternoon game drive amongst the giant baobab trees for which Tarangire is famous — and the massive elephant herds, sometimes 100+ strong, that give the park its identity.

Scenic transfer via Ngorongoro to the Serengeti — the crater rim views are memorable in themselves. Arrive your mobile tented camp in the central Serengeti for lunch and an afternoon game drive in East Africa's densest big-cat country.

All-day game drives following the migration herds. Bush breakfast and picnic lunch. Sundowner on a granite kopje as the sky turns copper and the calls of hyena start in the distance.

Morning game drive as you work your way east toward the highlands. Lunch at Olduvai Gorge, the 'cradle of humanity'. Sundowners on the crater rim as the shadows lengthen across the crater floor 600m below.

Dawn descent into the crater — six unhurried hours of game viewing amidst the highest wildlife density in Africa. Return to the rim, then bush flight to Zanzibar in the afternoon — the switch from savannah to Indian Ocean is one of the most memorable transitions in African travel.

Full day at leisure at your beachfront resort. Swim, snorkel, or simply nap in a hammock. Sunset dhow cruise with canapés on board as fishing boats return from the reef.

Morning snorkeling excursion to Mnemba Atoll — turtles, tropical fish, and (in season) dolphins. Fresh seafood lunch prepared aboard the dhow. Evening beach dinner with the tide coming in and the moon rising over the ocean.

Morning at leisure, then transfer to Zanzibar airport for international departure. Perfect end to the ultimate bush-and-beach journey.
