Lake Manyara & Tarangire Family Safari

After breakfast at your Arusha hotel, drive 90 minutes to Lake Manyara National Park. Junior ranger briefing en route — kids get their own binoculars and animal-tracking booklet. Lunch at your family-friendly lodge with a pool for the kids. Afternoon game drive through Manyara's remarkable variety of habitats: forest, woodland, and the alkaline lake itself, with resident troops of baboons and — if lucky — the celebrated tree-climbing lions.

Morning game drive around Lake Manyara looking for elephant families and flamingos, then transfer to Tarangire National Park in time for lunch. Afternoon game drive amongst Tarangire's giant baobab trees — kids love learning that the tallest baobabs are over 2,000 years old and used to be there when Julius Caesar was walking around. Tarangire's massive elephant herds (breeding families of 100+) are among the most photogenic in Africa. Junior rangers earn stickers for identifying five different species.

Full morning game drive along the Tarangire River — a bonanza in dry season when the entire park's wildlife converges on the water. Look for lion, leopard, and the enormous elephant families. After lunch, visit a Maasai village where children lead traditional games with your kids, warriors demonstrate the adumu (leaping dance), and the whole family learns beadwork or fire-making by friction with village elders.

Farewell dawn game drive, brunch at the lodge, then drive back to Arusha (2.5 hours) in time for afternoon international departures or a Cultural Heritage Centre visit for last-minute souvenirs — a treasure-trove of Makonde carvings, Tinga Tinga paintings, and Maasai beadwork.
