Overview

Perfect for a long weekend, this compact safari showcases two of Kenya’s most photogenic Rift Valley gems. Lake Nakuru National Park hosts both black and white rhinos and — when water levels allow — spectacular flocks of pink flamingos. At Lake Naivasha you can cycle among zebras in Hells Gate National Park, take a boat safari to spot hippos, and enjoy sundowners overlooking the freshwater lake.

Itinerary

Depart Nairobi around 8am, climbing out of the city into the Great Rift Valley. Photo stop at the famous viewpoint where the escarpment falls dramatically away — on a clear day you'll see the dormant volcano Mount Longonot rising in the middle distance. Arrive Lake Nakuru National Park for lunch, then out for an afternoon game drive to find the resident white rhinos (often within the first hour), Rothschild's giraffe, and — depending on water level — the pink-cloud spectacle of tens of thousands of flamingo on the alkaline lake.
