Murchison Falls Adventure

Depart Entebbe after breakfast for the 3.5-hour drive north to Ziwa Rhino & Wildlife Sanctuary — Uganda's only place to see rhino in the wild, restocked after they were poached to local extinction in the 1980s. After lunch, don your boots for on-foot rhino tracking with a ranger: get within 15m of these magnificent creatures. Continue north to Murchison Falls area, arriving your riverside lodge in time for a sundowner as elephants swim across the Nile below.

Morning visit to the top of Murchison Falls — where the entire River Nile is squeezed through a 7-metre gap in the rock and thunders down 43 metres in a single drop. It is one of Africa's most spectacular water features, and the roar is felt as much as heard. After lunch, a game drive on the northern bank searching for lion (Murchison's population is thriving), the endemic Rothschild's giraffe with its unique leg patterning, elephant, buffalo, and Uganda kob.

Morning game drive as elephants come to drink at the river. After lunch, board a launch for the three-hour cruise upstream to the base of Murchison Falls itself — feel the thunderous spray as you get within 100m of the world's most powerful waterfall. Hippos everywhere, enormous Nile crocodiles on the banks (some over 5m long), and superb bird photography opportunities including African fish eagle, pied kingfisher, and Goliath heron. Return to your lodge for a bush BBQ under the stars.

Long scenic drive back to Entebbe (5-6 hours), broken by a lunch stop at the equator crossing. Arrive by late afternoon in time for an evening international departure. If you have time, we can arrange a stop at Kampala's Uganda Museum en route.
