East Africa Grand Tour (Kenya-Tanzania-Uganda)
Fourteen days across East Africa’s three greatest safari nations — a once-in-a-lifetime journey covering the Great Migration in...
Rwanda in one comprehensive 7-day circuit — city, savannah, rainforest, and the misty volcanoes. Track chimpanzees in Nyungwe, hunt for lion and rhino in Akagera, and finish with the pinnacle experience: an hour with mountain gorillas in Volcanoes NP. Includes both a gorilla permit (USD 1,500) and chimp permit (USD 250).
Welcome at Kigali International Airport by your Vines representative. Afternoon city orientation tour including the moving Kigali Genocide Memorial — where over 250,000 victims are interred. Dinner at a modern Rwandan restaurant with your safari coordinator; briefing on the week ahead over locally roasted coffee and Rwandan cocktails.
Scenic 6-hour drive south through Rwanda's terraced 'land of a thousand hills'. Lunch stop in Butare with a visit to the Ethnographic Museum — East Africa's finest. Arrive Nyungwe Forest late afternoon. Evening canopy walk (70m above the forest floor) if energy permits — the aerial perspective at dusk is unforgettable.
Pre-dawn departure for chimpanzee tracking in Nyungwe's ancient rainforest — one magical hour with a habituated community, watching them hoot, groom, and forage just metres away. Afternoon tea plantation tour with a plantation manager, learning how Rwanda's most exported crop is grown, plucked, and processed.
Full-day scenic transfer east across the country to Akagera National Park (8 hours). Beautiful drive through terraced hills and papyrus swamps. Late afternoon arrival at your Akagera lodge overlooking Lake Ihema — sundowners on the deck as fish eagles cry overhead.
Full day in Akagera: morning game drive in the northern part of the park (prime lion and rhino country), afternoon boat safari on Lake Ihema with hippo, crocodile, and phenomenal birdlife. Evening bush dinner under the stars.
Long transfer north (7 hours) to Musanze at the foot of the Virunga volcanoes. Evening cultural experience at your lodge — traditional Intore dance performance by a professional troupe, followed by a hearty Rwandan feast.
Early morning gorilla trekking in Volcanoes NP — one hour with a habituated mountain gorilla family, the emotional pinnacle of the journey. Afternoon transfer back to Kigali for evening international departure. Day-room available for a shower and repack before your flight.
