Bwindi Gorilla Trekking Expedition

Welcome at Entebbe International Airport by your Vines representative. Transfer 15 minutes to a boutique hotel on the shores of Lake Victoria for overnight. Enjoy a briefing dinner with your safari coordinator: what to expect on the trek, what to pack for the forest, and the fascinating story of how mountain gorilla numbers have climbed from 250 in the 1980s to over 1,000 today — one of conservation's great success stories.

Choose your approach: a scenic bush flight south (75 minutes to Kihihi airstrip) or a road transfer via Kigali, Rwanda (approximately 9 hours through the terraced hills of the Great Lakes region). Arrive at your eco-lodge on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the late afternoon. Meet your porter, review your gear, and enjoy dinner with sweeping forest views as the mist rolls in. Early sleep — tomorrow is the day.

After breakfast, arrive at the Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger post for briefing and family allocation — you'll be assigned to one of several habituated gorilla families based on your fitness level and their known location. Trekking time varies from 2 hours to 8, guided by expert trackers who have followed these families for years. When you finally come face to face with a silverback and his family, you get one magical hour to observe them at close range. It is one of the most profound wildlife encounters on Earth. Afternoon Batwa cultural visit — meet the forest's original inhabitants, evicted when Bwindi became a national park, and hear their remarkable story.

Morning bird walk on the forest edge — Bwindi is one of Africa's premier birding destinations with 350+ species including 23 Albertine Rift endemics found nowhere else.
